St Hugh’s Awarded for Excellence
St Hugh’s commitment to training and developing a leading healthcare workforce was recognised last week at the University Centre Grimsby. The Higher Education Placement Team congratulated a number of dedicated students and thanked several local employers, including St Hugh’s Hospital.
Guests were welcomed to the event by the centre’s Placement Officer Samantha French, who thanked everyone for their continued support of Health and Social Care Science, Education and Tourismstudents as they continue their training.
St Hugh’s Perioperative Care Manager Ellen Colley and HR Officer Claire Panton represented the hospital and were delighted to be presented with a certificate for Outstanding Commitment to Professional Development. Hospital Director, Ashley Brown commented “We are extremely proud of the opportunities provided not just to our team of staff, but those gaining experience within St Hugh’s that is taken into employed roles at other NHS facilities. It is no secret that recruitment is one of the major challenges faced across the UK healthcare system. Our commitment in our staff today will ensure the quality of our patients tomorrow. This award recognises the hard work and commitment of our team in Grimsby.”
Each year we welcome Level 4 and 5 Health and Social Care nursing students, as they gain full-time real-life experience within a hospital environment.
During their placements the students shadow staff and are granted access to as many departments as possible to help them build a full picture of life within a hospital. They’re even invited into the operating theatre to observe surgery.
St Hugh’s was thanked for providing such an accessible experience and the Higher Education Placement Team also commended the hospital for facilitating placements outside of the usual timescales, allowing students more flexibility.
Eleven students and employers were recognised during the awards ceremony, which was preceded by afternoon tea.
St Hugh’s is a non-profit hospital, and we are part of a registered charity providing around 6,000 treatments per year in Grimsby to both private and NHS patients. We work very closely with the NHS to provide the highest level of healthcare which is free at the point of delivery.
We do not charge a premium for this service, which is cost neutral for the NHS, and all our surplus is re-invested into our facilities and charitable causes. Our non-profit status allows us to provide access to the highest standards of care, safety and service while maintaining fair prices.
