Ride with the Pros III - 29.9.18
Community Bike Ride to Welcome Pros
The health promotions team at St Hugh’s Hospital in Grimsby is calling for those new to cycling to ‘get on their bike’ and join the next Ride with the Pros event on Saturday 29th September.
Members of the public who are new to cycling are invited to join the free Ride with the Pros event, which brings together local cyclists and seasoned pros from British cycling team JLT Condor, for a ride in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
JLT Condor teammates Tom Stewart and Graham Briggs will join members of the public for the ride as they share tips and advice with those interested in improving their cycling technique and skills.
The event is hosted by HMT St Hugh’s in Grimsby as part of the hospital’s health promotions programme. The not-for-profit healthcare facility on Peaks Lane, which also acts as the start and finishing point for the ride, will provide refreshments for everyone who attends, so that riders can enjoy coffee and cake when they return.
The two 53km rides and the shorter 30km route, organised by Dave Evans from NEL Lindsey Go-Ride, will take cyclists through neighbouring villages including Waltham and East Ravendale, Swinhope, Ludborough and Tetney.
Gary Allington, Health Promotion Officer at HMT St Hugh’s Hospital, said: “Our Ride with the Pros events are really building up a following, so we felt it was time to actively invite those who are new to cycling to join us.
“This is our third and final session of the year and it’s great to see some of our regulars are already signed up to attend. But we’re keen to welcome newbies who might be looking for some guidance as they get started.
“Listening to the pros talk about their experiences and chatting to fellow cyclists really does help; as a cyclist myself I’ve picked up lots of tips and met some new friends along the way.”
Each group will be accompanied by experienced local riders from Lindsey Roads Cycling Club, who will keep everyone on the route. They will also ensure groups stay together and ride safely along on the roads.
While the majority of cyclists will be out on the roads, Dave Evans from NEL Lindsey Go-Ride will be hosting a session for younger riders on the hospital’s lawns and within a cordoned off section of the car park.
NEL Lindsey Go-Ride, the younger rider section of the Lindsey Roads Cycling Club, is a session-based training programme which helps children improve their cycling skills and boosts their confidence.
